Pastor Paul Schmidlin and Tracy Schmidlin demonstrated a meaningful tool for team training which is in the form of a large rainbow-themed puzzle. The pieces of the puzzle represent the activities throughout a VDC weekend (e.g., sendoff, reception, meditations, rollos, etc.) with each day having a unique color of the rainbow. A training session begins with the “Come Holy Spirit” prayer followed by a short devotional message. Then the puzzle pieces are attached to the puzzle in the order of weekend’s event beginning to end. Team members are called upon to read a short script about the activity and its relationship to the activities before and after it. This approach provides a colorful, “hands-on” way to teach and understand the progression of the weekend as the puzzle moves from chaos to a complete picture of the weekend to come. The puzzle is also a metaphor for how all the individual team members are a piece of the puzzle that join together to become one team.
